Why i started my side business

It all started when I got laid off from Giant Eagle Market District where I worked on hand lettering and illustration on chalkboards to promote products. I had a hard time finding another job for 3 months. During that time I found other artists on Instagram achieving their dreams of becoming full-time freelancers who also helped coach other artists to do just that. I fell in love with hand lettering when I had the job at Market District, so I asked myself why not me? I know this is something I could do! I started practicing more with my hand lettering and posted my work on instagram to get noticed.

At the end of October 2016 I finally landed a new job. A couple of months in I started feeling unfulfilled with my work and I knew I had more potential to do more. Around 2017 I began doing hand lettering challenges on the side of my day job and the more I practiced the better I got. At this point I started working on a new website and logo for my brand. Which as you see now!

In 2018 I was diagnosed with an eye disease in both of my eyes called Myopic Degeneration. As an artist I am completely terrified having this disease because I have no idea what that means for my vision in the future. But so far they have been continuing to be stable for about 5 years now. This has become one of my biggest reasons to finally have career fulfillment and to be happy doing what I love. As a public service announcement go to the eye doctor when you start noticing bizarre spots and flashing in your eyes. Vision is so important!

2020 I became a first time Mom. Being a Mom during the pandemic has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do. My Daughter and Family are the biggest reasons to trying to find something out there meant for me.

For my last PSA don’t ever give up on your dreams even when it can get discouraging. The harder you work the sooner you will get there!
